The North Shore Multicultural Society is a not-for-profit agency providing settlement education, interpretation and support to immigrants and refugees.  Programs include parent and caregiver education programs, English classes,    and information on educational, medical and health systems, housing, family issues.

Family Host Program

Become a Parent Volunteer with the North Shore Multicultural Society’s Host Program. We are looking for families who are interested in volunteering 2 hours per week to help a new family settle in on the North Shore. Volunteering time is flexible and can be combined with your regular activities. This is a very rewarding experience for parents and children to learn about different cultures, make new friends, and to give back to the community. Please contact us at 604-988-2931 ext 263.

Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS)

The Settlement Workers in Schools Program is funded through the BC government.  They are located within in school districts.  Their purpose is to help immigrant and refugee children adjust to school culture. The workers also increase parent involvement in their children’s education, while helping to build awareness of community and government resources. As well, a valued component of the program focuses on increasing cultural awareness and sensitivity in schools.
