Family Services of the North Shore

Family Services of the North Shore is a not-for-profit agency providing counselling and parent/caregiver education and support programs across the North Shore.  

Family Services of the North Shore also provides parent and child drop-in programs at the I hope family centre on West 1st Street and at Maplewood Farm.  Family Support Counsellors and Parent Educators are in attendance at some StrongStart drop-in programs.  Call the main agency number for further information.

North Shore Community Resources (NSCR)

North Shore Community Resources is a not-for profit agency that provides training, information, resources and referral services for parents, child care providers (licensed, regitered and informal), ECE students and the community.

The North Shore Infant Development Program provides information and support to parents and families of children (birth to 3 years) experiencing or at risk for developmental delay.  Home visits, workshops and opportunities to meet other parents, including a playgoup program are provided.

Family Host Program

Become a Parent Volunteer with the North Shore Multicultural Society’s Host Program. We are looking for families who are interested in volunteering 2 hours per week to help a new family settle in on the North Shore. Volunteering time is flexible and can be combined with your regular activities. North Shore neighbourhood House is a multi-service agency providing a broad range of recreationsl, social support, community development, and indormations and referral services to children, youth and families.

North Shore Supported Child Care Development Program

NSSCDP is a community-based program that assists families of children with extra support needs to access inclusive child care that meets family needs. The program is intended to serve children from birth to 12, with services for youth 13 – 19 years available in some communities.

SCDP provides the following services to support children, families, and child care providers:

  • Individual planning to promote each child’s development
  • Training and information for families and child care providers to help each child’s development
  • Resources such as books, toys and specialized equipment
  • Referrals to other services such as therapists or specialists
  • Where necessary, additional staffing to ensure that children may participate fully with their peers.

SCDP operates under the principles of inclusion and family centred practice. SCDP uses a multi-disciplinary team approach. Parents may self-refer, or with parent consent, referrals may come from other service providers. The service is voluntary and free of charge.

Parent Support Services of BC is a not-for-profit, volunteer-based society that focusses on preventing child abuse and promoting healthy parent-child relationships by supporting parenting, failies and commuities.

So-Sah-latch Family Centre

So-Sah Latch Family Centre provides health and community services to members of the Squamish First Nation, including counselling (individual, family, and couple), drug and alcohol counselling, and community health services such as speech-language pathology and prenatal classes. Also offers an Elder’s Program that provides transportation to medical appointments, and an Adult Home Care Program that provides home support case management. The Family Program offers daily living skills support, family/parent group, Mother Bear drop-in program, and infant development workers. The Brighter Futures program offers educational workshops and activities that enhance parenting skills to parents with children ages birth to five years.

West Vancouver Memorial Libary

The West Vancouver Memorial Library provides a wide variety of family literacy programs, including storytimes, Parent Child Mother Goose, themed  book kits, and programs for parents, caegivers and child care providers.  There is an extensive collection of multicultural material for children of all ages.
