North Shore Disability Resource Centre

The North Shore Disability Resource Centre works to ensure that people with disabilities, along with their families and friends, can participate actively as members of the community. We are committed to working toward a community which is free of physical, financial and attitudinal barriers.

North Shore Supported Child Care Development Program

NSSCDP is a community-based program that assists families of children with extra support needs to access inclusive child care that meets family needs. The program is intended to serve children from birth to 12, with services for youth 13 – 19 years available in some communities.

SCDP provides the following services to support children, families, and child care providers:

  • Individual planning to promote each child’s development
  • Training and information for families and child care providers to help each child’s development
  • Resources such as books, toys and specialized equipment
  • Referrals to other services such as therapists or specialists
  • Where necessary, additional staffing to ensure that children may participate fully with their peers.

SCDP operates under the principles of inclusion and family centred practice. SCDP uses a multi-disciplinary team approach. Parents may self-refer, or with parent consent, referrals may come from other service providers. The service is voluntary and free of charge.

North Vancouver Recreation Commission

The North Vancouver Recreation Commission provides recreation services in the City and District of North Vancouver.  The Commission operates 7 major Community Recreation Centres, Centennial Theatre and Grant Connell Tennis Centre. Drop in playgroup session in the Lynnmour area near Capilano University. Meet with other parents, share circle time or take a break while your child plays with others. Community Health Nurses, Infant Development Program consultants and Parent Community Developers regularly attend – come with all your questions. Everyone is welcome! Please bring a small food item for snack time and a drink for your child. Coffee and tea provided. $1/family group – Wednesdays 9:15 – 11:15am

So-Sah-latch Family Centre

So-Sah Latch Family Centre provides health and community services to members of the Squamish First Nation, including counselling (individual, family, and couple), drug and alcohol counselling, and community health services such as speech-language pathology and prenatal classes. Also offers an Elder’s Program that provides transportation to medical appointments, and an Adult Home Care Program that provides home support case management. The Family Program offers daily living skills support, family/parent group, Mother Bear drop-in program, and infant development workers. The Brighter Futures program offers educational workshops and activities that enhance parenting skills to parents with children ages birth to five years.

Vancouver Coastal Health Youth and Family Program

Vancouver Coastal Health Services offers two programs designed and delivered around the specific needs of children and youth: The Youth and Family Psychiatric Outpatient Service and the Child and Adolescent Program.

Together these two programs provide comprehensive outpatient assessment, treatment and consultation services to pre-school, elementary, and secondary school children with behavioural, social and emotional difficulties. Families can contact these programs directly, or may be referred by a physician or community agency.
