Community Action Program for Children (CAPC) is a federally funded project that delivers long term funding to community coalitions for programs that address the health and development of children (0-6 years) who are living in conditions of risk.
It recognizes that communities have the ability to identify and respond to the needs of children, and places a strong emphasis on partnerships and community capacity building.
CAPC provides parents with the support and information they need to raise their children. Programs may include family resource centres, parenting classes, and parent/child groups.
CAPC supports children and families with low income, and addresses cultural isolation, developmental delays, or lone parent status. Support is also provided to First Nation families who live off-reserve with young children.
The North Shore’s CAPC program is called “First Years Count”. For more information, contact the CAPC coordinator at 604-982-3304.
